Hi Everyone I have an interest in Diptera, therefor I will post over the coming days some pictures of flies that I have taken and would love to identify. I live in the Algarve, south of Portugal, and at the moment I have seen an unsual fly, that I can not identify. It flies around in a quicker speed than syrphidae and instead of choosing flowers it lands more often closer to the ground. It measures around 4-7mm and has a greater wing span. Bombyliidae is correct. However, for someone like me with decent keys available it is not possible to identify it because the wing venation is not visible. You will need someone who really recognises the fly. Maybe Mark van Veen when he visits the next time.
