What are the chances of getting to species level with this little wasp? Photographed in the garden,on Sedum plant a couple of weeks ago. Regards Roger Roger Thomason attached the following image: [151.62Kb] |

Can I draw your attention to HymIS the new forum for Hymenoptera identifications? If you post there you are more likely to get an identification I think http://www.forum....um.php?f=8 |

Hi Chris I've looked at the HymIS site and wonder why I will be more likely to get an ID there, as it is the same people on both sites! The upside of using them would be the end of the dreaded "No new Threads at present" every time I post something . Yeah I know it's a Diptera site........ Regards Roger |

Roger - I think you will find that the real specialists in this field check HymIS far more regularly than they do Diptera.info. I've posted on HymIS and got a quick, useful answer (not to species level, but I did get an answer from the specialist in that group of wasps, who, although he is a member of Diptera.info, I can't remember the last time I saw him online here).

Hi Roger I think Susan is right - we all have cross-over interests but I think a lot of hymenopterists joined diptera.info when HymIS didn't exist. Now HymIS has been set up I am sure they will go there first to look, even if they also come and browse around diptera.info too Also, the more people who support HymIS, the more experts it will attract too - a busy site is a healthy site There's no problem posting Hymenoptera here - it's nice to see such great photos - but it just might be better in HymIS. Of course having less Hymenoptera ID requests will reduce the number of times you see "No new Threads at present" on diptera.info too Cheers, Chris R. |

Me, I continue to pass here but I do not want to encumber Diptera.info! It was already nice to accomodate us before the birth of Hymis! Moreover, Hymis starts a Hymenoptera gallery! cthirion |

Hi (too many to mention) I've registered with HymIS and posted a couple of photo's already. I did look at the site briefly and thought it was all in German. Well in Shetland when I was at school(many years ago) we were almost forced to speak English,so German was out of the question. Realise they have an English language section so I'll send my posts there. We don't get a lot of Bees and Wasps up here, but I have found a lot of Ichneumon Wasps and Chalcidoids which are not on any lists for here so was hoping to get those ID'd. . Regards Roger |
