First post so apologies for any errors. The attached was photographed today (August 22nd) in Powys, mid-Wales. It was resting on a nettle leaf. i would estimate it's length at approx. 5 to 8mm. Having looked through gallery pictures I am guessing at Bactromyia aurulenta, I wait to be corrected. Thanks for looking Steve SteveNic attached the following image: [81.61Kb] |

Looks like Dexiosoma caninum Really there are very few tachinids that you could identify by browsing through the gallery (it is mainly useful for secondary confirmation). You need to have keyed a few specimens before you will know what to look for when comparing photos |
