Yes it is a Sconopinidae, very likely Scenopinus fenestralis...

of course. you SHOULD do that! the wing venation discarded completely syrphids along with the way the wings are inserted. I never saw a scenopinid in the field. |

No, I've never seen one in the field. Seen them a couple of times living up to their name though, in the corner of a window. |

aha. yep. that's why they are called window flies. But there are scenopinids in the field as well. Andrade saw some in the field, and surely Steve Gaimari saw a lot. |
