Hi all, These small conopids (6 mm) were obviously waiting for some opportunity in the middle of a Halictus nesting ground. There were dozens of Halictus nests, plus some Cerceris rybyensis (their predator) and small Sphecodes sp (one of their kleptoparasite). Also some unconcerned Philanthus triangulum working their honeybees. Quite q busy place. I wonder if somebody could suggest a name for this one, probably an endoparasite of the Halictus (???) Louvain la neuve (Belgium) in dry sandy soil. Philippe moniotte attached the following image: [89.12Kb] Edited by Philippe moniotte on 23-06-2008 11:55 |

On second thought, and after consulting the van Veen key at http://home.hccnet.nl/mp.van.veen/conopidae/ConGenera.html I think it is Zodion cinereum. Cheers Philippe |
