Hello,

what species is this +- 2cm asilidae, which I found two weeks ago near a lake in western germany? For me it looks like the Neoitamus pictures in the gallery.

Thanks,
Michael

Hello Michael,

looks like a male N. cyanurus. Do you have a detail of the genitalia to confirm the ID?

I only have this photo from a bit more above. I don't know, whether the genitalia are better to see. It was another specimen, but I hope the same species.

Hi,

then I would better call it Neoitamus cf. cyanurus. The genitalia are not good enough to see to confirm the ID.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
