Hello all, Looking up some recent messages on the forum, I seem to recognize Ernestia rudis in this fly found on May 22 2008 (?) Bois de Lauzelle (a beech forest) Louvain la neuve, Belgium; Size 10 mm approx. No. It is a male Blepharipa pratensis. Pity we can't see the comb on tibia 3. See recent post from The Netherlands on this species. Theo |

Thanks Theo. I'll dig in my files to try and find a picture showing tibia 3. Is this species territorial - males at least ? It kept coming back to the same spot, and was there again at the exact same place when I visited three days later (well, assuming it was the same individual) Cheers Philippe |

A cameraman's dream, so to speak. INteresting. I once so a male Bl. schineri, related species, even hovering. Which is quite unusual in Tachinidae. Theo |
