Hi,
Today I met a moderately sized grey Tachinid in our arboretum. A name for it would be fine.
Many thanks, Sundew

Looks like Dinera grisescens, but I'm not 100 % sure if I do see a plumose arista

My guess was Dinera, from the general overall appearance and the fact that the abdomenal excavation doesn't extend back to the hid margin of T1+2 Smile Then after checking the Central European Key it would have to be grisescens, from the degree of dusting Smile Looks like there is a plumose arista to me ... if I squint Shock

There IS a plumose arista! Grin
Many thanks indeed,
Sundew

PS. As this species is still lacking in our gallery, for labeling it would be good to know whether my fly is a male or a female.

The tip of the abdomen looks male to me ... unless I have missed something obvious Smile Might be worth submitting the close shot of the head to the Gallery too Smile
