Hi, Today I met a moderately sized grey Tachinid in our arboretum. A name for it would be fine. Many thanks, Sundew Sundew attached the following image: ![]() [174.17Kb] Edited by Sundew on 23-05-2008 12:48 |

Looks like Dinera grisescens, but I'm not 100 % sure if I do see a plumose arista Theo |

My guess was Dinera, from the general overall appearance and the fact that the abdomenal excavation doesn't extend back to the hid margin of T1+2 Then after checking the Central European Key it would have to be grisescens, from the degree of dusting Looks like there is a plumose arista to me ... if I squint ![]() |

There IS a plumose arista! ![]() Many thanks indeed, Sundew PS. As this species is still lacking in our gallery, for labeling it would be good to know whether my fly is a male or a female. Sundew attached the following image: ![]() [177.36Kb] Edited by Sundew on 23-05-2008 12:47 |

The tip of the abdomen looks male to me ... unless I have missed something obvious Might be worth submitting the close shot of the head to the Gallery too ![]() |
