No, this is one of the calyptrate flies, either family Muscidae (true flies or house flies) of Anthomyiidae (root-eating flies). The most striking character of calyptrate flies (the calyptra under the base of the wing) is not very well visible in this picture.

You can see it on http://www.dipter...?photo=121. It is the white thingy under the base of the wing. It can be much larger and more obvious in other groups of calyptrate flies.

Do you mean the calyptra? This, and other anatomical features, is figured on http://www.ento.csiro.au/biology/fly/fly.html# (included in DipteraInfo Weblinks Miscellaneous Anthomyiidae and Muscidae (This is anthomyiid I think) are in the gallery.More info in Wikipedia Diptera (go to DipteraInfo Weblinks -Resources) |

Hey - it is naturally the quality, quantity and range of diptera available that will be the deciding factor in the move. Poor Simon is already resigned to this.

Perhaps in order to make sure I am prepared for the move we could switch the forum to French? But then I suppose we would have to spend some time in Dutch to be fair and I REALLY couldn't cope with that. I too am waiting, waiting for the new diptera key in English. A bient?t Susan |
