Hi all,
We are used to seeing the acrobatics of empidid mating pairs, but this one is almost a miracle : the male is hanging on a window glass pane!
I had plenty of time to fetch my camera and shoot a few pictures before they fell off.
Size was 8-10 mm

The short rostrum makes me think it is not Empis sp, or is that wrong and not a criterion at all ?
Thanks for your suggestions
Philippe

On second thought, could they be Rhamphomyia crassirostris ?
Cheers

Male eyes contiguous: not crassirostris. Probably sulcata.

Thanks Paul
I thought of sulcata, but I was under the impression that sulcata was overall darker, with the female having clear wing ?? Is that just a wrong memory ?Wink

With this oblique view of the wing it is hard to say how 'clear' the wing really is.
