If somebody can tell me what family this rather distinctive fly comes from i would be grateful, sorry that the photo is not so good.

Nematoceran? Have you been drinking, Jorge?

Looks more like Clusiidae (Clusiodes).

Dear Jorge,
Thanks for the answer but it is not a Mycetophilid, see the antennae in this new photo, now that I have removed a wing.

no. I was fooled. Paul has reason. Never could be a nematoceran. It is clusiid.

Thanks Paul,
I have now been to the Clusiidae gallery and it looks closest to Hendelia beckeri, Jorge I will try for a better frontal photo later, I only got the camera today and haven't read the manual yet.

OK, the first two photos were using the SuperMacro Mode, these two are taken down the microscope, with practice I am sure I will get better.

Yes, the very bottom photo is a clusiid, but the top photos are not! This is a species of Chyliza (Psilidae)!
Cheers,
Steve

Why not, it was not my wing and the fly was already dead, and I have several others from the same sample. I would do as much for you Andre.Cool

My thanks to Steve for helping sort this one out, perhaps Andrew will put it to species for me.
