Hello forum, Last summer I saw these fly's (Anthomyiidae ??) and they were milking the louse, just like the ant. Is that a normal behaviour? And is it to do whit this photo, too say it are Anthomyiidae ?? Greatings Joke javanerkelens attached the following image: [130.09Kb] Edited by javanerkelens on 24-04-2008 14:19 |

Fannia (Fanniidae). I wonder if this behaviour has ever been described in print? If not, it would certainly be worth publicing. How did the ant react? Hostile or not? Kahis |

The ant was absolute not hostile to the flies. Perhaps I can do this summer a better observation of it. Greatings Joke |

Quite probable, that male and female are of the same species. In this case I'd say Fannia cf. serena - small species with male's wings darkened and female's upper part of parafascialia and ocellar triangle shining. And a very common species. it would certainly be worth publicing The site for publishing such a small (fragmental) observations is under constraction - http://dipteradatabase.info/main5.php Nikita Nikita Vikhrev - Zool Museum of Moscow University |

The site for publishing such a small (fragmental) observations is under constraction - http://dipteradatabase.info/main5.php I can't log in, to submit a shot publicing! Is it the same as the login for Diptera.info or not (it is not working whit my usually login) Greatings Joke |

Joke - this is a different site to Diptera.info. It is still under construction, only a few people have access to submit records at the moment while it is tested. Perhaps easiest if you wait until it is released properly.
