This one was also plentiful in Bois de Lauzelle, Louvain la neuve, today April 21 2008. 5-6 mm. They were flying in swarms and always resting with the wings in this position. Bibio sp. I believe, perhaps Bibio lanigerus judging from the gallery, except that the wing position is not the same in the pictures of the latter species. No females the be seen either. The hairs on thorax are black and metatars 3 seems elongated, so this should be the related B varipes. Theo |
