I found this tachinid in a nearby park in the outskirts of Vigo. Not much to say about envioronment as all the area is artificial. Basically Birch, Oaks, pines and some scattered beech. Size of the adult was about 12 mm, photo taken at sea level on April 5th 2008. Wasnt able to take many pictures, only this one and the other which will follow up shortly. Would be glad to know at least the genus, evidently if possible the species, but I understand this may be much more difficult. Tahnks for your comments. Yes, I passed on this one too - we'd need to see the dorsal view too to have much of a chance. Lovely photos though  |

This is a really unusual fly but I have run as much of it as I dare through the Palaearctic software key and it comes out at 5 possible genera but only 1 or which has a species that comes out in April ... Pexopsis aprica. I really don't think it is that species though (it is very rare and some aspects don't fit this fly), so we need a specimen |

This is not Pexopsis, the head profile is different. It is a male with broad vertex, should be quite obvious, but it isn't at the moment. Maybe Ceromasia ? Theo |
