Hello everyone!

This mosquito must have flown into our kitchen on Thursday through the tilted window. When I saw it, it already looked sick, only moving when touched, and died before I could photograph it.

I would be very grateful for any identification.

Size: 4 mm
Date found: December 18, 2025
Habitat: Entry into apartment
Location: Nuremberg region, 350 m above sea level

The wing vein (short R2+3) points to Keroplatidae, but I could not find a resembling pattern yet.

Proceroplatus? The tropical species Proceroplatus trinidadensis is found in Europe but probably can not survive outdoors in the winter. It lives in greenhouses.

Hi Eric, hi John,

I already received a tip about Keroplatidae, and while searching the gallery at diptera.info, I found Proceroplatus trinidadensis. But I was very unsure about that.

The mention of greenhouses (and perhaps conservatories?) makes it more likely, I think.

I'll classify the animal that way for now. A new species for me. Wink

Thank you very much for your replies and happy holidays to you both!
