often see these small (5mm) black flies basking in the spring sunshine on the railings by the lake at work in SW London, often quite numerous but well spread out. Higher magnification shows most of them have pollen attached. family would be fine thanks. |

it seems anthomyiids are everywhere today. |

Time of the year and pollen suggests Egle spp. Larvae feed on salix catkins, which I expect you will find in bloom nearby |
