A long shot from this only picture - but over the last years I regularly had Dioctria hyalipennis in our garden (Rheinbach near Bonn/Germany, 210m above sea level, huge forest close by). This one flew into our Hydragia with its pray, but disappeared again immediately :-( Any chance for an educatd guess? Thanks for trying, Jörg

According to what I see: D. hyalipennis seems to be correct. But to be sure, a lateral view would be necessary (scutum must have a outlined dusted pattern). van den Broek, Schulten (2017):Fieldguide to the Robberflies of the Netherlands and Belgium Greetings, Eric Kloeckner |

Thank you so much, I take it as D. cf. hyalipennis and keep on looking for it in our garden this year as well. |
