In our exchange of material I've got from Gerard Pennards this wonderful Suillia from Madeira, end of Jan. Meso- and pteropleura with hairs, 8-12mm. S.innotata or S.oceana? Nikita Vikhrev attached the following image: [147.34Kb] Nikita Vikhrev - Zool Museum of Moscow University |

If oceana, it should have the tip of the palp blackened. If the scutellum is hairy all over, it's tuberiperda; if not it could be either notata or innotata: genitalia to be sure. |

I am (slowly) working on a revison of Suillia, and use my key (to the British fauna), parts of Die Fliegen and Gorodkov...plus my own collection !. There are some synonyms that require confirmation, and at least one new species. I'll publish it one day (I've been saying that for 15 years !) |

A slightly less than subtle hint ! I will try my best to get something out in 2008 - but don't hold me to it ! |
