Hi, I am afraid I'll never learn how to cope with these small grey ones. There are several families to take into consideration, and I mix them up constantly. Luckily you are more familiar with the distinctive features! This is another one from Usedom Island in August. anal vein reaches wing margin so Anthomyiidae. (there are very few exceptions but this is not the case)

Dear Jorge, I believe in your experienced eye; however, I am not able to track the ending of the anal vein (and I know which one it is) in these small pics. I had a look at the originals using an enormous magnification, but to me the situation remained unclear... Ok., my favourite family Anthomyiidae again. Many thanks, Sundew |

Sundew, look the left lower photo. Now look at the wing is on the other one. (look at the right wing). Now you can see near the base of that wing 3 veins. Two of them near the base are anal veins. And we can see that them reach the wing margin. The reflex on the wings can be tricky. Your fly is an anthomyiid according jizz as well. ask always. And remember that I might be wrong. Even those families (Muscidae/Anthomyiidae) sometimes tricks me. Edited by jorgemotalmeida on 01-03-2008 00:35 |
