Upon cutting a dead Buddleja in my garden (Vienna, Austria), I found these breeding chambers in a twig - I assume these are Dayhelea or related Ceratopogonids. And as the prey I suspect Crossocerus. Cheers, Lorin Font Color All requests are from the urban area of Vienna, if not otherwise stated. The eyes of Dasyhelea touch on top of the head. Some of these flies have smaller eyes more typical of Chironomidae. |

Here is a close up - looks like the eyes are touching? Also there might be several species serving as prey, also from various families - but the thoracic pattern looks very consistent in those specimens which are recognizable Cheers, Lorin Font Color All requests are from the urban area of Vienna, if not otherwise stated.
