A colleague posted these photos on our local online citizen science biodiversity recording site. She thinks the beast may be Eutolmus rufibarbis, but I think it might be Machimus chrysitus. I'd like a real expert to look at the photos and tell us where we went wrong :-) From central lowland France. June 2022.

Hi Susan. This is not a Machimus species but a species in the tribe Neomochterini. It could be a Neomochterus or Aneomochterus species but I do not know them. Best to collect these specimens and exmine the geniatalia. Best, Jonne |
