Hello,
March 13, 2024 in the south of France.
Body 7,5 mm.
I noticed that Meliscaeva auricollis has a pale scutellum. But here I see the bicolor scutellum. Is this the criterion for another species?
Thank you for your help

Identification seems difficult. Shall I record it as female Syrphidae indeterminate?

Hi,

Meliscaeva auricollis I would say, maybe the bicolored scutellum is caused by the light

Best,
Jonne

Thank you very much Jonne,
I think it is indeed this species, with the darker color of the winter generations.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
