I caught this fly in Ngaoundere/Cameroon/West Africa in July 1995 (rainy season) on grassland in the hills. Unfortunately I have no idea what it might be. Can someone of you help me identify it?
Greetings from Austria,

Hello Guenther,
This is a fly that belongs in the family Stratiomyidae, Soldier flies.
I think it should be in the genus Hermetia, because it resembles Hermetia illucens a lot! Look in the diptera gallery of this site! http://www.diptera.info/photogallery.php?photo=137
It could even be this very same species, but I am not totally sure about that!
greetings,
