Body lenght approx. 7 mm. Photo taken near Monteguidi, Tuscany, Italy, on oct. 15, 2019. Can it be determined?

I think it's a female Leucostoma sp.

Thanks a lot. According to Cerretti's doctorate thesis, there are 8 species of Leucostoma in Italy; I think it could be Leucostoma simplex (Fallen, 1815) female but obviously its only a guess.

I checked it with Ceretti, too, and also ended with L. simplex. But with my limited knowledge I would not dare to identify the species with a single photo.

Cordiali saluti
Eric

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
