Hello,

I found this fly near the Lake Manyara National Park, Tanzania, 1200m a.s.l. on February 20th 2023. I think it's a Tachinidae, but is it possible to identify its genus or species from these photos?

Thank you in advance,
Emanuele

My experience in the afrotropics is limited. I’d need to study the specimen to be able to say more.

Unfortunately I didn't collect the specimen as I didn't have the equipment to properly store it, so I limited myself to taking the photos and returning it to the ant I stole it from.
Do you think it's possible to pinpoint at least the subfamily based on these pictures?

Probably Exoristinae based on the hairy eyes and strong first post-sutural supra-alar bristle. The other possibility is Tachininae. Dexiinae and Phasiinae are unlikely.
