Hello!

These Diptera had laid their eggs and died in several spots protected from rain. The larvae under the dead flies were alive.

Does anyone know which species this is?

Family is Athericidae, might be Atherix ibis going by pics in the Gallery.

A well known phenomenon. The fly is Atherix ibis.
