Eupeodes lundbecki I think?

See comments here about another superficially similar syrphid which was confirmed by National Institute here as Icelandic E.lundbecki :

this conforms to key here fwiw :
https://web.archive.org/web/20040307120801/http://home.hccnet.nl/mp.van.veen/KEYS/Eupeodes/eupesleu.html

- eye angle 120 degrees
- frons swollen with dense black hair on top

however, the key does not include all Icelandic species of Eupeodes :
there is

-punctifer
-borealis
-nigroventris

still to rule out

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
