Hi, This larger hoverfly took a rest on a leaf at our garden hedge. I suspect it could be a male of an Eristalis species, but it looks a bit different from the Eristalis tenax males I have seen here up to now (not many). Can that be confirmed or excluded from the attached image and/or is a narrower determination possible ? Hi Eric, thank you for the determination, that is obviously a better fit (esp. the bronze mesonotum), even though the yellow markings are a bit reduced. Thanks for the info on the veins, that was new for me. Greetings, Uli |
