Hello everyone, I photographed this hoverfly yesterday in the Black Forest, south-west Germany. I estimate the size at 9 to 10 mm. Unfortunately I only have this view. I think it's a male of Cheilosia variabilis, but I'm not sure. Can you help me? You could be right; the wings are relatively long and darkened, as one would expect. However, with few details on legs, face and antennae, it is difficult to be sure in this large genus. |

Hi Karsten, many thanks for your response. What irritated me the most was that the fourth tergit has a different color. I haven't seen that before. So I will write the name with a "cf." Greetings, Siggi |
