hi flyforum,

I found several mating Trichoceridae(?) on parts of trunk (chop down)tree's.
Several insekts were attrackted to the resin of these trunk.

Are these flies Trichoceridae?
And what kind of?

size: about 1cm
place: Amsterdam forest

Hello Robert,

At first I thought it was a Dixidae (wings), but they are 3-5,5 mm.
And on second thought the wings where not the same
But I think now that it could by a Winter Crane Fly.
Indeed Trichocera sp. !

But mayby somebody else has more or better info....

Hello,

this is Trichocera , but no special characters are visible to tell which one this could be. As wing venation could be quite variable, usually genitaliae are needed to tell the species for sure Smile
