I have 2 species of Scatopsidae, that I am not sure about how to identify.

Using https://www.online-keys.net/infusions/keys/keys_view.php?key_no=23#c4, is it correct that both have a "Scutum with an elevated U-shaped ridge"?

This would mean it is part of the Aspistinae subfamily, where Aspistes berolinensis is the only species of this subfamily in The Netherlands.

----

First species: The Netherlands, today

Amazing very interesting! I believe I got confused by the elevated scutellum instead of the scutum Smile

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
