Not the best of pictures, but shape of hind metatats (and date) strongly suggests B. femoralis.

So, was this south, central, north of Poland ?

Thanks

Theo

Thank you Theo. The picture was taken around Poznan, west Poland.

Femoralis is not known from the Netherlands …. yet.
It was supposedly a more southern species, but Poznan is at the same latitude as NL and definitely not warmer in spring ….

So I’d expect records for NL shortly …. if ee keep, our eyes open Smile

Thank you for the clarification!

It looks like my retired mum does a good job, hah. All the posted pictures here were taken by her. She tries to identify the species by herself, but obviously it has to be checked out by the specialists. Consequently, I'm bothering you up here, hah

Regarding your Polish, you are doing well, respect! Smile

If you want to practice your Polish skills, hah, feel free to check out the website - this is what my mum found in our family garden in the past 3 seasons:

Fingers crossed for the first record of Bibio femoralis in the NL!
