Looks like Scatopse notata, but let someone with more experience with this family respond. :-)

What do you think of Ferneiella incompleta, male?

Your first idea was correct, Andres. Most certainly Reichertella geniculata.

Ah, indeed, the wing venation is totally wrong for Scatopse notata.

Not totally wrong, Jan Willem, as the wing venation is quite similar in both species. However in Scatopse notata there is an indication of a short translucent anterior vein arising from slightly angled M1 in direction of R4+5, which is not present in R. geniculata. Ferneiella incompleta has also a stump vein arising from M1 anteriorly, but it is differently shaped. The accentuated terminal rounded bend of very long R4+5 is also characteristic of R. geniculata.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
