It is a female Merodon, belonging to the avidus-nigritarsis lineage. In the Mediterranean area there are several complexes of cryptic and sibling species, and species identification based on morphological characters is hardly possible (see https://www.resea...ew_species, https://brill.com...anguage=en). Identification of females is extremely difficult. So your nice fly will remain "Merodon spec." Regards, Sundew |
