Hello, I photographed this fly on Mentha today and I see T. magnicornis here. Am I right in my assumption? Greetings, Volker

Hi Volker, I'm sure you are! (Though it's a female and these are quite tricky - varium et mutabile semper femina [Vergil] ) If you could post a better version of the 3rd photo we'll have no problems to see that the 4th tarsomere of the foreleg is distinctly wider than long.

Thanks Volker, it's not exactly what I wanted to see but the tarsomere seems to be skewed. Anyhow I'm sure it's magnicornis - the fore tarsi are black and the black longitudinal abdominal stripe widens distinctly towards the end on tergite 5.

Hello Eric, thanks for confirmation. The tarsi are difficult to judge, depending on the view of the legs. In nature, it is difficult to show the individual body parts well. But what should it be other than this species? Greetings, Volker |

Yes, and I think, magnicornis may have a pointed midstripe but fera not a widened one. (T&H key, Ceretti)
