Hello,

I have several Bombylella species from Romania

1 I am certain is Bombylella atra (first image, 12mm), the other 3 are similar but half the size (6mm), so I feel they must be a different species, but I can't find any keys on this genus, just the GBIF.org records. They also have most of the abdominal hairs rubbed off unfortunately, but the remaining hairs show the same white spots as atra.

Does anyone have any resources on this genus or idea what this species may be? Or if the atra species has this wide size variance?

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
