Assume this is a black biting fly- body length about 4mm Found yesterday on the lid of one of my pond filters South coast UK. This seemed to have smaller eyes than previous ones I've seen- does that mean it's a female ? or just a different sp. brian V. Edited by LordV on 11-01-2008 07:51 |

Simuliidae. I know too little about them to say whether the differences you noted can be specific or merely sexual.
