Hello,
is it possible to say more to this Syrphidae larva?
I found it on June 6, 2022 on a forest path near Waldmünchen, Bavaria Germany.

Regards
Ingrid

Difficult to say as we cannot see the prp and it seems to be an earlier larva stage. I've seen a resembling one few days ago on a Juncus sp. but that was green instead of red. Both could be Episyrphus.

Hello Eric,
I thinks this larva, found yesterday at a forest path (near Furth im Wald, Bavaria, Germany) should be the same genus. It was sitting on a dead Aglia tau caterpillar.

Hi Ingrid, I agree and we can see the prp on the rear end.
Rotheray's Colour Guide says about Episyrphus:
"Prp about as long as broad and dorsal spurs absent..."
(But this is not a clear proof)

Thank you very much Eric!
If there were still aphids here, I would have breeded the larva.
But the ladybugs cleaned up with it. ;-)
All the best!

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
