Visiting flowers, especially wild carrot, in our garden in Mechernich-Satzvey (Germany) on the edge of the Eifel, on 24 September 2021. Cylindromyia bicolor? Is it possible to determine the sex on the basis of these photos? I’m grateful for your comments!

Hi Hans Theo, bicolor is correct and it's a boy with big feet (large pulvilli).
Greetings, Eric

Hi Eric, thank you very much for your comments on the boy with the big feet! I had checked some of Chris Raper's excellent pictures, but remained unsure about the criteria that could be applied to tell whether it was a male or a female.
Best wishes,
Hans Theo
