Pollenia (atramentaria?) or Calliphora? (13.03.22) --> Calliphora vomitoria (m)

Hello,

unfortunately I could only take photos from a distance of 2 m of these flies. At a sap flow of a cut branch at the forestborder (northwest Germany).

Besides some Muscina levida and a few other flies, the was a bigger male (~10 mm). I'm not sure, if I see some blue at the abdomen, which would speak for Calliphora (vomitoria?) or not.

There were many Pollenia on the wing yesterday, but on this fly pollen hides the typical scrubby thorax hairs.

yes, that brought me to my second assumption. But I was unsure, becaus only some reddish yellow hairs are visible.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
