I took this photo in the Gard in Southern France in August. It was perching on a stone and making sorties from there to chase other insects. The habitat was garrigue - dry scrub woodland on limestone. Sorry about the quality of the photo. The insect was about 20mm long. Any clues to its identity?

Hello, I'm looking for literature on chironomid larvae that are able to survive after being entrapped in ice for at least several days . So far I've only found literature on Eretmoptera murphy
