To the best of my knowledge, there are 2 Scathophaga species with a dark last antennal segment: S. stercoraria and S. litorea. To separate them, you have to look closely at the arista. In S. stercoraria it is plumose, in S. litorea the hairs are very short. James |

My conclusion is - Scathophaga stercoraria Based on what i se in the microscope, most of the hairs have fallen off, but the lenght of the remaining hairs says so. --rune runetk attached the following image: [102.04Kb] |

If you Google Stuart Ball + Scathophagidae, you should easily find the pdf on the British Scathophagidae. Lots of good information. James |
