Hello

Although my previous thread remained unanswered, I try to post a new Phaonia on the forum. I'm not sure if this fly belongs to the tuguriorum/scutellata group or anything else because it has orange legs and underlined transversal veins, but the scutellum doesn't seem to have an orange tip. What do you think about this fly ?

Thank you in advance.

Found today (10th of October 2021) in a forest border in Rosny-Sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis, Île-de-France, France).
Body length : 7/8 mm

Hi Axel, to be sure, more images were helpful - but I think it could be a Helina impuncta (I cannot see the "Phaonia bristle" on the hind tibia, the eyes are sparsely hairy).
Greetings, Eric Kloeckner

Thank you for your answer. I have other pictures (an intermediate angle of view and a closer dorsal view) but I'm not sure they are be useful.

Yes, that helped - pretty sure, it's the female Helina impuncta.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
