Hi!

I have a female! So I now know what I'm looking at for chymomyza.

I think these two are either fuscimana or distincta - not got to a 'scope yet ...

Let me know if I'm wrong!

Thanks!

I think it is fuscimana as the epandrial lobe seems to be narrow. For the female, placement of the longest seta of oviscapt is the only distinctive character between the two species - and it is not seen in the photo.

Thank you! I shall soon be back to a 'scope and be able to take a proper look. She also may lay eggs (??? I've been lucky with costata before!)

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
