Individuals +/- 5mm long.
On wild raspberry leaf, in dense undergrowth, 10m from a small stream.
Remained on leaf for about 2 minutes before flying off, still joined, onto another leaf about a metre away.
Is genus ID possible with these poor images?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Ray, these flies are among the most abundant in my garden through the last weeks. I think it's Diplonevra nitidula, where the females have mostly yellow fore legs. (See the Gallery & Forum Search).
Greetings, Eric Kloeckner

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
