Hi,

I took a picture of this orange fly in our garden at the hedge, where it was sitting on a leaf. Based on some pictures in the web (e.g. https://diptera.i...o_id=10659 ) I would speculate that it could be Chrysopilus laetus. Is it possible to confirm or reject that speculation based on the picture below?

Germany, Southern Bavaria, Munich (-West), 01.08.2021, app. 8-10 mm

Greetings, Uli

Yes, that is correct.
You can see the wing tip is darkened as well. According to the literature, this would indicate Ch. pullus, but some /many laetus have this feature.
See the very new article by myself and others in Entomologische Berichten.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
