Hello, I photographed this fly near Pietracamela (TE), Italy, 1000m a.s.l. on June 10th 2021. I think it is a Rhagionidae, but is it possible to identify its genus or species from these photos? Thank you in advance, Emanuele ESant attached the following image: [281.24Kb] Edited by ESant on 30-07-2021 15:43 |

The black Chrysopilus should be in theory be Ch. cristatus, but the typical cristatus has shorter pterostigma. Also that species tend to keep the tip of the abdomen bent down. So I am puzzled.

Well spoken. The wing pattern suggests erythrophthalma, which however has partly reddish femora, at least in central Europe. Clypeus is different, any chance for a frontal view ? theo |

Thank you both very much for the help. Unfortunately it flew away before I could take other photos. |
