Hello!

These 10 mm flies were - among others - very numerous today on tree trunks here in Ostwestfalen/Germany. Is it possible to tell what family they belong to, or even the genus? Thanks in advance!

Thanks! I had read that thread but was not sure, whether my fly is the same (as the first one). It seems to me that it is a little bit more slender and gray (but that may be an artifact of the photo). Of course, Helina had come into my mind before I posted the pictures.
Best regards,
Jürgen

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
