Is Pelatachina tibialis a dumb idea? Arista long and bare, thickened in the basal 1/4. Mostly black hair behind the head, but some pale behind the mouth. Calypters and wing bases rather yellow. Tergites 3 and 4 heavily dusted across the base and sides. 7mm.

From 19 May 2007, inner city park with mature deciduous trees, areas of open long grass and small ponds with quite a bit of marginal vegetation.

The tibia doesn't look right to me ... but it is a badly damaged specimen so it's going to be tricky. I'd like to try it myself with the specimen but it might only be possible to get close by using the software key Smile

Whatever it is, it is heavily damaged and NOT Pelatachina.

Seems to me some Goniini/Eryciini, like possible Eumea linearicornis
(note the 'like'-part).

SighSad I had convinced myself that Pelatachina was likely, but once I saw the photos I thought the bristles were too haphazard. I'll have to post the poor little creature to you Chris - goodness knows how many bits it will be in by the time you get it.
