Is the ID fine? Not sure if the eyes are hairy or not.

All requests are from the urban area of Vienna, if not otherwise stated.

My Diptera observations (and other living forms) can be found here, and corrections or comments over there would also be appreciated.

Hi Lorin, I think it's a Smidtia conspersa.
Greetings, Eric Kloeckner

Eye is very hairy.
I don’t see why this would not be a male Phorocera: it is Ph grandis time at the moment !

Thanks a lot guys! I am not happy with posting the photos here without giving it a thorough try myself (with the Tschorsnig key), but I have very limited time right now, and I want to send some specimen for sequencing.
I even have the specimen but didn't find a spare moment to take further pictures. Glad for your help, will try to comprehend the ID in a calm moment.
Cheers, Lorin

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
